ROYALS’ SACILOTTO NAMED HEAD COACH OF CROATIA’S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM

Victoria, BC- The Victoria Royals are pleased to announce that Director of Prospect Development Enio Sacilotto will join the Croatian Ice Hockey Federation as their head coach for the 2017 IIHF World Championships.
A member of the Royals since their inception, Sacilotto served as the team’s assistant coach from 2011 to 2016, and currently holds the position of Director of Prospect Development and WHL Scout. Sacilotto will return to his position with Victoria at the conclusion of the World Championships.
“This is a well-earned opportunity for Enio. He is an exceptional coach with plenty of international experience,” General Manager Cameron Hope said. “Enio is certainly equipped for the job of guiding a national team on an important international stage. We wish him success.”
The tournament will take place in Belfast, Ireland from April 23-29, 2017. Croatia will compete in Division 1, Group B alongside Japan, Great Britain, Lithuania, Estonia and the Netherlands in a round robin format. The wining team will be promoted to Division 1 Group A. Croatia is currently ranked as the 26th club in the IIHF.

Sacilotto previously worked for the Croatian Ice Hockey Federation during the 2009-10 season when he served as the head coach for both the Under-18 and Under-20 teams at the World Junior Championships. The Vancouver, BC native was also the head coach for Croatia’s Medvescak Zagreb of the Austrian Hockey League during the 2009-10 campaign.

Sacilotto gained additional international coaching experience in 2014 when he was named an assistant coach for Team Canada Pacific at the Under-17 World Hockey Championships.
